Leading innovation

 

Our innovative design and flexible manufacturing processes exploit the aeroelastic science and expertise previously employed by our MD, Dr Sabrina Malpede, in the sail design for racing yachts competing in the America’s Cup.

Our blade’s light, textile-covered body enables it to be lengthened and allows it to harvest more wind energy, while its unique modular structure reduces manufacturing footprint, making it more sustainable than any other blade.

Created by the founders, the ACT blade is the first textile covered blade that has been produced and tested in operating conditions.

ACT blades have two distinctive levels of innovation

  1. a game-changing construction approach, and

  2. a unique control system to reduce blade loads and optimise performance.

Its construction method and materials enables modular manufacture and assembly with reduced up-front investment, reduced costs to develop blade variation and production costs.

Its unique control system and use of the textile enables the shape adaptation to reduce load in high wind.

 

The company founders are the creators of the technology protected by two families of granted worldwide patents.

The ACT blade patent was chosen to celebrate the 400 years of the first British patent. 

Main benefits

Our ACT Blade expands the boundaries of blade technology and makes wind power generation more effective and more competitive by:

Increasing Wind Energy Production
Its lower weight enables longer blades to be built with lower mass and the same mass-moment at blade root, producing more energy with minimal change in turbine loads.
Lowering the Cost of Wind Energy
For example, an ACT blade can be 10% longer than a conventional blade, producing over 9% more energy and reducing the levelised cost of energy produced by c.7%.
Reducing Capital Costs
Due to its modularity, the ACT Blade can be manufactured by existing supply chains and entails a far simpler and faster assembly process which can reduce capital costs by up to 45%.
Improving sustainability
The ACT Blade is designed to be partly recyclable and to use recycled material, reducing landfill waste and aligning with responsible energy production.
